Laila is 9 weeks old now. Can someone please tell me what I'm supposed to do when she barks at me and bites me? It feels like she has knives in her mouth. Doesn't she know that I'm her mommy? I tried giving her a frozen washcloth in case she's teething. That helped for about 5 seconds. The rest of the time, I'm being chased as she nips at my ankles.
From what I've read, I'm supposed to be showing her that I'm the "leader of the pack". I missed the lesson on how to effectively do that...
Hey Sue!
ReplyDeleteThis is Jin and Ash and our friend Bethany.
Ashley says that you should NEVER run from your dog, especially when they are puppies because they will claim dominance and learn that they are LARGE AND IN CHARGE =P. So try not to run from her- flick her on her nose and tell her no... if she knows how to sit, try to get her to do that too.
I know the flicking seems mean, but it's better than hitting her on the top of her head. Also it will not take a lot for her to figure out flicking on the nose is not fun and that she is misbehaving. If you are WAY against the flicking you can also try the spray bottle method and squirt her in the face when she tries to bite you.
Is she just chasing you or is it Gil too? If Gil is the only one she "respects" that may also become a problem in the future.
Hope this is helpful! =D
As of now, she doesn't respect either of us! She also just started barking in a very demanding way when she wants something. I'm not a fan of that. And trying to crate train her has been awful! She barks, whines, howls, and scratches when we put her in the crate. We try to ignore her and then when she finally calms down, we praise her and let her out. It hasn't really been working though. Once we let her out, she'll go lay down quietly. She just hates the crate! I need the dog whisperer!!!
