Our living room is a skinny, small space. The shape of the room created the biggest problem when we moved in because we didn't know what to do with the furniture right away.
I'm a fan of HGTV.com and "Rate My Space". I've posted pictures of the living room on HGTV and have gotten some feedback. Many people said that the chairs were blocking the fireplace and should be moved. My instinct has always been that the couch should be in front of the windows. But then we get this awkward space by the door that's not big enough for furniture, but looks odd without anything filling it. Sigh.
So, I've tried the furniture both ways. What do you think? I'm in favor of layout number 1.

Possible Layout Number 2:
I think this looks super crowded. Not a fan.
What do you think?
Yep. That room is a challenge. I wonder how it was furnished when it was built? I imagine big chairs facing the fireplace, but no couch.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it, but maybe your couch is too big for the space??
Or maybe have only the couch?
I don't know! In any case, good luck! I hated the shape of the LR in our GR house - and we've got sort-of the same problem with our new house. It's one of those things that just takes time. I've found it usually takes two years, or more, to finally get rooms comfortably and pleasingly arranged.
I totally agree. Looking at pictures, I'm thinking the couch looks gigantic. Unfortunately it's new...haha. We wanted a comfy couch. We'll figure something out, I hope!!
